About Me

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hi, I’m Ying — a young person living in Yongkang, a small county-level city in Zhejiang Province, China. Yongkang is the kind of place most people have never heard of: famous back home for hardware and tools, full of small workshops and family factories, but with no skyscrapers and no metro lines.

This blog is my notebook. I write about ordinary small-town life here — building our family house brick by brick, the things my neighbors argue about, local food, the little puzzles that come up when you live far from the big cities everyone reads about.

Why in English? Because most writing about China comes from Shanghai or Beijing. I wanted to share what life actually looks like in a county town — the honest, unglamorous version.

One thing to know: English is not my first language. I write it slowly and imperfectly, and I’m still learning. If you spot a mistake, that’s part of the deal. I hope you enjoy the notes anyway.
